Drinking Age in Belize

While the drinking age in Belize is often not enforced, the legal drinking age in Belize is 18 years of age. Most supermarkets and convenience stores carry a selection of wines, beer and liquor. These shops will sell alcohol from Monday to Saturday.

On the following days, no alcohol is sold:
  • Good Friday
  • Easter Sunday
  • Election Day (until 18:00 hours)
Most of the alcohol in Belize is very expensive, when compared to the United States or Europe. Local beer and local licors, such as rum, are affordable, but imported beers are taxed quite heavily on import duty. Wines are always imported (and thus always taxed), even “cheap low-quality wines” are quickly sold at prices for which you’ll get a very nice Chardonnay in Europe.
