Clarissa Falls Resort in San Ignacio, Belize

The resort is located on a Belizean-owned family 900-acres cattle ranch, La Clarissa Ranch, next to the Mopan River and is through this location not a real jungle resort. Clarissa Falls Resort is located 5 miles southwest of the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena in the Cayo District of Belize. The resort is near to the border with Guatemala which is at a distance of 6 miles.

The resort has no nearby neighbors and is so located at a relaxing country environment in Belize. Televisions and radios are not available at the resort, but you will hear the gentle sounds of the waterfall (or some people call it a rapid in stead of a waterfall) which is located right next to the resort. The resort has some pet animals, but also wildlife as birds, lizards and iguanas are living on the property. The Maya ruins of Xunantunich are visible from the resort and can be accessed by a 2 miles jungle hike. 
 
The resort has a open air restaurant, Clarissa Falls Restaurant, but the resort also has barbecue facilities. The Clarissa Falls Restaurant is located under a thatch roof next to the Mopan River. The restaurant is serving Belizean and Mestizo-style dishes for breakfast, lunch and diner.


Through the location of this resort midway of San Ignacio and Benque Viejo del Carmen the Mayan ruins of Cahal Pech and Xunantunich are conveniently close by. But also other activities as the Maya caves Actun Tunichil Muknal and Chechem Ha, the Maya cities of El Pilar, Caracol and Tikal (in Guatemala), butterfly farms, medicinal & nature walks, national parks, river trips and jungle treks are in the neighborhood. Clarissa Falls Resort can arrange tours, but it is also possible to tour with local operators from for example San Ignacio. Activities at the resort include river-rafting, river tubing down through the rapids of the Mopan River, taking a dip in the Mopan River, bird watching, horseback riding, hiking at the grounds of the resort, frisbee golfing on the 5-hole course and helping at the ranch by participating in the rounding up of cattle with cowboys. 
 
Clarissa Falls is a resort with diverse options for accommodations ranging from camping to cottages to suites. In case of camping you have to bring your own camping gear, but bathrooms with showers and hot and cold water are available. Prices for camping are BZD 15 (USD 7.50) per person per night. The cottages and suites are located at the riverside and have enough space for up to 4 (cottage) or 6 (suite) guests. The cottages have a bedroom and a private bathroom. Prices are BZD 75 (USD 37.50) excluding 9% Government Hotel Tax per person per night for a cottage. The suites also have a dining & living room and a kitchenette. Prices are BZD 350 (USD 175) excluding 9% Government Hotel Tax per night for a suite. All the rooms have standing fans. Reviews of this resort are mostly very good to excellent. The accommodations are very basic and some people think that they are slighly overpriced. Keep in mind that the staff don't want to bother you, so to get housekeeping you have to ask them. 
 
It is also possible to visit Clarissa Falls Resort as a day guest. In that case you have to pay a BZD 2 (USD 1) entrance fee for admittance, which supports the Wildlife Sanctuary. The resort is taking care of injured and orphaned birds before they are released back into the wild. Next to admittance you have to pay for most of the available activities on the resort including picknicking of your own brought lunch. 
 
The resort is able to offer special deals to groups, including couples who are planning to marry and are thinking about a Belizean wedding. For a marriage it is possible to rent the complete resort. The resort has a total of 11 cabanas and also for student groups a bunkhouse with 10 beds. The resort is offering a special deal including meals for student groups.
